I got an internal referral for a Microsoft Customer Success Cloud Solution Architect position. I have not yet talked to a recruiter, as the referral was just today. I am currently at a non-FAANG hyperconverged company as an IC6 (Sr. Staff Architect) with 20 YOE in SoCal. Levels.fyi was not too helpful as my current company is not listed. Just going by tc on levels.fyi I would fall into the L66 range to match where I am now.

Is L66 within MS for a CSA position at all reasonable? Would the recruiter provide any details on the level range for CSAs? If the recruiter asks about expected tc, should I be evasive with specifics and wait on an offer, or should I reference a specific level (e.g. L66) as an expected range?

  • Very unlikely you would come in at L66 as an individual contributor. Depending on how much cloud experience that you have, L64 or L65 is more realistic. If no cloud experience then definitely L64 due to yoe.

    • In So. Cal? I don’t think that will be realistic. $250-$295K at best. Microsoft just doesn’t pay CSAs or anyone for that matter as much as FAANG. Also a 30% of your comp will be based on a quota attainment. Potential to make in the 300s if you kick ass there.

    • The bands are wide...a high 62 base can overlap a low 64, but a 64 stock will obviously be more. And I agree with the above...you don't usually see higher than a 65 CSA and you wouldn't want to as your growth opportunity isn't there and if you can't level up you won't get anything except the 2% raises annually. High 300s is extremely unlikely...you'd prolly be closer to 250+stock.

For cash bonus you'll be on a 70/30 split with 75% of the 30% being CBI and 25% bring RBI, so ACR isn't as impactful.

This year I think all CSAs, at least in my org, are on an all up number and not individual accounts...which has pros and cons.
