Hello All, Can you guys comment on what you think of Microsoft's growing hardware culture ? Seems like they are investing in newer generations of CPU/SOCs. They have opened up hardware divisions at multiple US locations now. Please comment on your thoughts on their work culture, wlb, compensation, employees , learning opportunities and future of hardware design etc. Would love to hear from Microsoft hardware guys who are already working there. I dont have any offer from them but I really like the CEO and his vision. Interacted with a few hardware folks there and they were very nice and friendly. Didn't feel like a sweatshop like Qcom or the fruit company. Always wanted to work there. I might give it a serious thought about going there. #hardware #semiconductor #microsoft
Are you in one of the new acquisition sites (Portland/Austin/Raleigh)? Those are entirely new orgs from the ground up, so that's probably where the startup feel comes from. The older, original HW org (SES) from Redmond/SVC doesn't have the startup vibe as it's been around for over a decade now.
Yes, i am based on portland :)
I feel you. Working at Qcom itself is so tiring. I feel like I am not adding any value to my careers , not adding any new skill. I am just doing some stupid thing day after day. Pay is also way lesser than Apple. Maybe somewhat comparable with MSFT but still lesser. I probably could make it to Apple but no more mobile semiconductor companies for me. MSFT stock is also very good. How are the refreshers compare between the two ?
π hands down better for stock refreshers.. However, MS is being pretty generous with their initial stock offering and sign on bonus.. My initial stock was 450k for L65 with 170k sign on cash (paid over two years), if I consider living cost and other factors, MS's offer was way higher than π's (Portland vs Cupertino)
Damn, that's a great offer. Even NV can't beat it! Do you mind sharing your YOE and job profile?
