Interviews went fine (for Azure) and I have been told that the recruiter will contact me soon. Does Microsoft ask for current TC before rolling out the offer ? If yes, should I reveal it ? If not, how can I avoid it and will it have a negative effect ? Would really appreciate your inputs folks ! Current numbers: IC4 (~ 11 YOE) with INR 37.5 LPA base, stocks INR 5 L (over four years)
Does Oracle pay 37.5 lakh for IC4? That is a wonderful salary. Which location? What TC are you expecting at Microsoft?
Can't reveal location. Sorry! It's India (obviously!) š hoping to get a decent L64 offer. Don't want to screw up the negotiation
63? Or 64? At MS? That will decide your salary, seek level first
Absolutely. Ask what level they are offering you. If you get 64 then best. 63 should be okay too but that is the lowest level you should accept.
Dont know yet. Will confirm once I talk to the recruiter. What do L63/L64 numbers look like (for recent hires).. Any idea?
You can get more than this. Keep in mind. Microsoft has a very good variable pay which very few companies pay. E.g you could get 0-30k usd stock per year depending upon performance. Also bonus 0-30% of your base. This is for 63 and 64 level. So, I think you should get what you may be looking more or less.
Let me know what you get really. As I am also planning India office now.
I see. Well, they were above average for sure š
Yes recruiter will ask for TC, infact last payslips. There is no negative effect because they've got fixed pay bands by levels. It all depends on level you get. You can get TC around 50-55L (+/- 7-8L), all depends on level ultimately.
Spot on! I was asked for payslips etc. (as per latest update). Fingers crossed now
One of the recent L63 salaries in India - 34 base 6 joining bonus over 2 years Perf bonus - 0 to 10 lacs Stocks - 70 lacs over 4 years. This is admittedly very high end in L63 stocks wise from what I know but hopefully this gives a ballpark.
How much do you get on average out of perf bonus?
50%
Thanks for your help so far folks! Recruiter asked for payslips etc. and I submitted them - its wait and watch now. I am curious about the following (assuming L63) - what's the average % bump for the base ? 10/15/20 % ? - since my current stocks are peanuts, how likely am I to be lowballed on this front ? I see that standard joining stocks are 40-80L (over 4yrs)
Average bump is around 8% for base Thereās also a stock refresh. I think for L63, target is around 15000$ over 4 years in IDC. Microsoft will definitely try and low ball. Tell them unless they give a certain number you canāt sign the offer. Theyāll surely revise. Wish you luck!
I thought so. Let's see how this, goes š How much of a say does hiring manager has in the TC - both initial rollout and negotiations?
Got the verbal offer folks (was told that official offer will be emailed EOD) Level - L63 Base - 40.5 LPA (8% bump over current) Stock - 28k USD over 4 years (~ 4.5 LPA) Joining bonus - 7 LPA (4+3 over 2 years) Performance bonus - 0 - 30 % (going to consider 50% for TC calculation i.e. 6 LPA) Car (transport) allowance - 2 LPA (never seen anyone mention this on Blind so need to clarify WTH this is and how will it be paid) TC ~ 55-57 LPA My gut feeling is that base could be a wee bit better and RSUs are terrible (kind of expected). What do you think would be practical to negotiate and by how much ? Base/Stocks/Level ? Please chime in and help me close this. Thanks for all your inputs so far !
Never heard of a car allowance in Microsoft.
First of all, congratulations :) Internal L63s start at ~32-33 lacs as base so youāre starting off at a good number! 28k stocks is a joke. New grads in college get 30k$ stocks so theyāre clearly low balling you. I would ask for 45 base + 75-80k in stocks. Be firm on the number and they should definitely increase whatever youāre currently having. Say something on the lines of ā45 base and 80k in stock, and Iāll sign the offer in the next hourā and theyāre sure to bump It up :) And thereās no transport allowance. Probably talking about car lease program where you can potentially save up to 1 lac rupees in taxes a year on maintenance + no tax on EMIs.
37.5 LPA at 11 yoe š.Thats the TC for 3-4 yoe in product companies.. You can get atleast 2x of your current TC if your try hard
Are salaries that high in India now?
Yes, but only for a handful of MNCs and some hyperfunded startups. You can't really negotiate Microsoft offer without competing offers and/or if the team really wants you. Not revealing your current salary is best, but even if you do, it may not affect you much because there are pay bands for titles and YoE in general.
