Team match not done but recruiter said I will be coming in at L5. All 5 interviewers were positive and system design went visibly well. Am I being down leveled? What compensation can I expect in Seattle? For those that moved from Microsoft PM role to TPgM role at Google did it feel like a down level of responsibilities? I don’t have mba and haven’t been able to get past Prod Mgr interviews at f/g
When you say you haven’t been able to get past as a PM, do you mean you’ve attended those interviews and didn’t make it or did you not get an interview Call as such?
Didn’t get past phone screen 😧
L65 to L5 is not a downlevel. How many years have you been at L65?
+1 also pay is far better at Google and your resume is in much better shape with 3-4 years under the belt at Google
Can you please post tips on the onsite for Google TPM. I have an onsite in June. Did they ask you any coding questions? How about system design (my weakest area)?
Echo that, post tips?
Did you end up taking the offer?
I think it depends a lot on interview performance as well as counter offers. Microsoft levels are inflated compared to Facebook, Amazon and Google. I know L63-64 senior SDEs who could only get L5 at Amazon (Amazon college grads start at L4). After saying all that, Google does down level but they should still pay you good money. Depending on your performance and counter offers, you can make anywhere from 300k to 450k a year in TC. Probably you would have already seen this floating around on blind. Please refer to levels.fyi for some comparison among levels at various tech companies.
I was also L7 tpm at Amazon in the past...
Given your Amazon and Microsoft experience, I personally don’t think it makes sense to go as L5. If you get to L66, you are easily in L6 territory. The offer will need to be really sweet, like a significant bump in steady state after you remove the effects of joining bonus and stocks.
