I have been offered SDE role at Microsoft in core services engineering org. People on blind says it's not a good org. to join. It's basically Microsoft IT. I don't have an offer yet. If I like the offer, I'm thinking of joining CSE org. and then move to Azure or ML group after 3 months. How difficult would it be? Any other suggestions/tips?
I would not recommend joining with the intention to leave in three months. If you do - your mind will not be in the state of fully contributing to your team, performance can suffer and you can get a low performance assessment or let go as a hiring mistake. If you want to get to a different team - try to get there right away.
Do they let go people as hiring mistake? Usually when do they realize that? 1-2 months or 1 year or something else?
Signs of that are clear after 2-3 month, your manager can try to get you on track and if it doesn’t work - you can get insufficient results and let go quickly before people spend too much time on you. Needless to say you cannot change jobs with insufficient results. There is a possibility to do it right, if your manager supports your transition. But that would depend on the manager, and if you take the job with the attitude to move quickly - it lowers the chances.
Performance is good = you didn’t get IR (insufficient results) and you got 100% of Target aka stock + bonus + merit increase. With that, you can start applying for other jobs. Rewards will come out in aug.
Don't Join msft
Your goal team itself is not great... Noone wants to Join azure ML team
Think twice before joining msit
Can you please elaborate?
It has ruined my career.. Especially from growth perspective
Cse is msit . Anywhere out of that org is better
Difficult but possible. Difficult because you are in the lowest tier of engrs amonsgt other orgs and possible because leetcode matters a lot once you get a call.
Getting initial call could be a challenge I think but if it isn't then I guess all that matters is your practice
So I have to go through full round of interviews as if I'm joining from outside? Does my current manager have to be onboard if it's just 3 months after joining?
