Microsoft: Network Engineer Postings - Difference between "Core Services Engineering" & "Cloud and Enterprise" Teams? Anyone have insight on what products the two above teams work on / job role differences?
Core services engineering is IT. You don’t want to go there. C and E is azure and other cloud offerings. That’s the place to be.
Thanks!
one is garbage with shit leaders, the other is a real product
The product sucks big time and as a network engineer you will soon realize you cannot really support the network stack they’ve built. Oversell in Azure and non networking guys trying to clown around about networking. Stay away if you cannot tell lies and are not a minimalist developer. No networking needed in azure networking.
It also depends on your skill set, Cloud and Enterprise will expect you to have at least 1 Azure certification and the ability to publish VM's, config nic topologies, etc on Azure. Take a $1000.00, and go invest in an Azure account and 3-6 months of self study to pass the phone & onsite interviews. Oh, and be solid at taking and reading net traces by WireShark, Network Monitor (still popular), and possibly some Message Analyzer. Good Luck!
There is also a 3rd team - Called PFE and we are a blend of both of the above teams, but are a profit generation center. We have open reqs as well for Azure. PFE = 1/2 senior consultant & 1/2 ops engineer to help specific Fortune 500 customers like Boeing, Disney, Intel, HPE, etc.
Thanks for the reply, what does PFE stand for?
Premier Field Engineering. Microsoft has PFE's and DSE's (Dedicated Systems Engineer) at T-Mobile. Just ask your Microsoft TAM (technical account manager) who they are and you can have a conversation about it.

"Core Services Engineering"=Microsoft IT, a cost center. "Cloud and Enterprise"=Future of the Company. Proceed accordingly.
