Hi all, I am a master's student in one of the ivy league schools. I received the following offer: Role: PM Location: Redmond, WA Base: 110K Sign-on Bonus: 25K + 5.5K for Relocation Stock: 70K over 3.5 years Level 59 Is there any room for negotiation to up the TC? I heard master students can get level 60 even as a new hire, Is that doable? I do not have any competing offers as of now but I am in the interview process with Facebook and Google.
Sounds like you got the standard offer for a candidate with little/no experience aside from internships. The graduate degree and ivy name are generally worthless in this field, sorry -- actual experience is the only thing that matters. Bear in mind that 59/60 at Microsoft is still just engr1 title, no difference in scope there. Also if you start at 59 expect to increase to 60 after a year. And comp doesn't change much for 59-60 so you're not losing much there. All in all, just decide whether you want the job -- you're not going to move the needle on that.
What does it take for L61?
Professional experience not in an internship.
Hi
Always negotiate Edit: Always
So true. This always helps and I feel they always keep a buffer while letting you know the numbers. So push for min 10k more bonus and RSUs
They gave you a standard new grad offer, with slightly higher on hires. (Standard I heard this year was 10k cash + 50k stock) If your master's is relevant you should try to get 60. Additional offers will make that much easier. What org is this?
Thanks! It’s Azure. And my masters is in Machine learning. The given deadline is pretty close so I either have to ask to extend the deadline to get more offers from possibly Google or Facebook and then negotiate or negotiate a better offer now and accept it
If your masters is in ML then why are you taking a PM offer? SWE can pay you more.
They are offering undergrad level 59s 120k stock standard so something to keep in mind
Ask for 150k /3.5yr rsu, (maybe even more with really strong competing offers), L60 and 120k base (b/c of MSc)
Do you think I should email my request or ask for a call? Also should I ask for a deadline extension?
I see people with 59 level get 120-150k Stock, 20-50k sign on

If you have a work experience of 1-2 years, then you should definitely look for level 60. And only competing offers can help you negotiate the salary.
