Recently interviewed with the OneDrive / SharePoint Org and while I liked the vibe of msft I really would like to work in Azure Compute / anything cloud. I am positive I will have great feedback and would like to know if it's possible to pitch my feedback to other teams for an offer? Possibility of getting a reduced loop given my current feedback? Thanks YoE 2 / TC 135
1. You can easily say that azure compute seems to be a better fit for what you are looking for. 2. Any manager at Microsoft will not feel bad if a report is leaving because it's a bad fit.. 3. Managers only reach out to other manager after the interview is done not before.
Could I do this before joining though? I could also switch to AWS but would prefer to just join azure outright
You’d need to loop again usually. Microsoft typically hires by team head rather than general SWE with the exception of new grads.
Would my feedback be taken into account? No way to float that to a diff manager?
It’d have to be done manually by the recruiter, and those are two separate orgs with likely different recruiters. Hiring managers can’t see other feedback from other loops in the tool. But they can ask the recruiter to share it, which is rare. Ask your recruiter what they can do.
U hear back yet?
I would say accept the job. Get all the goodies then after a month switch to azure.. Office gives you a nice laptop which I'm not sure if azure does
1. Don't you need to go through internal loop again? 2. Some managers will be wary about guy who is hopping jobs. 3. HM can reach to your future OneDrive manager. You may not get offer at Azure Compute and things will go south with OneDerive manager. Even though MS has policy to discourage hiring manager from contacting current manager, some of them still do.
Agree with ati. Don’t switch that quickly...maybe after a year.
