Microsoft PFE to SWE
Would anyone happen to know how the transition from PFE to a SDE at Microsoft would be? I am a 4th year student graduating in May. I have a return offer to IBM as an entry level swe TC $98k in Austin TX. Also have a PFE offer in Charlotte TC $87k. If i took PFE role, how hard would the transition be back into SWE? Any advice would be appreciated!

It depends on your background. I attempted a similar transfer and was able to get multiple offers across microsoft as an engineer. Here's what they don't tell you though: they won't give you stocks or a signing bonus as part of the transfer package so you'll only have a base salary. I said no and took an external offee that was almost 2x what microsoft offered. Either pressure microsoft to let you reinterview for a software engineer role or take the IBM role and interview after 6 months.
Thanks for responding. I have 3 internships in software engineering under my belt, 2 @ IBM & 1 @ Cisco.
Also just a heads up, all you do as a PFE is give talks to companies and organizations that are stuck in the last century.
