Received intern offers for an MBB firm and PM at Microsoft. Undecided of what I want to do in the future; Microsoft new grad pay seems to be better but MBB exit opps seem more promising. What are your thoughts?

If you want to be a PM in the future, don't go to MBB. You will lose your edge and folks who started directly as a PM will be ahead of you.

    Talking from personal experience.

    • I second this. Irrespective of how many MBB years of experience you get under your belt, you would still most likely get a junior level when you decided to switch from MBB to PM.

I also hear what people are saying that Software PM > MBB > Hardware PM. However, if - if it is easy to transition from Hardware PM to Software PM without downlevel, then you should go for Hardware PM. This is something, unfortunately, I don’t know about.

All this assumes you want to be a PM in the future :)

More opportunities, bigger impact, much faster iterations and it pays better in general.

This. Hardware PM will have fewer opportunities, lower pay, and your products will likely be engineering driven.
Software PM > MBB > hardware PM

If you’re undecided, take MBB. It expands your optionality. Just know that most people leave MBB, some in search of PM opportunities. But if you can do it once, you can do it again
