The PMs are pretty well-liked across the industry but I don’t know any details from the inside.

  • Power BI is stuck in its own Microsoft world of patchy work to a sucking product.

High time MS renews it from scratch like Office 365 or, it will be dead because of Thoughtspot.

Wow, lots of PBI haters here.

I wonder how many work in BI at all or have more than a 101 knowledge of PBI

I think most people’s exposure to it is just the poorly designed internal reports

That is possible. I wouldn't disagree. Most folks forget the difference between the template and having the data offline and these choices make the reports show.

But there are also better ux things which is missed, like d3 created better graphs than powerbi.

Also the filters are hard to implement of the data.

It is basically a wrapper over Excel.

PBI visuals are made with D3. Also, it’s not an excel wrapper, it’s a SSAS wrapper which is pretty powerful.

I’m a fan and it’s come a long way in the last few years.

Another issue I see is the imports...the different sources it can handle makes it more and more translations from one source to another...

    • I worked in BI space for 10 years. Especially OBI, Microstrategy and, PBI.

The PBI interface is super clunky and not user friendly. Nothing personal against Microsoft. They have some great products and love the O365 - especially Teams and OneDrive.

I used PowerBI when I was an engineer at Microsoft. Safe to say it’s the worst Microsoft product from a usability standpoint. It’s clunky, hard to set up for large data sets and laggy af.

Really shows you that Microsoft isn’t an engineer’s company these days.

Toxic org, stay away. Wlb depends on the team but on-call will be heavy due to short-sighted design decisions.

Product is doing good. As far as I see WLB is good.

Can't comment about the internals, but as a product I don't see a lot of value in it
