Hey there, I'm looking from anyone who has been a new hire with Microsoft on their STEM Opt (24 months). As some of you might be aware, stem opt needs the form i-983 to be filled in from employer before I can submit to university. As part of new hire procedures, I was reached out to by HireRight for BG check and the Visa team for H1-B related information. But so far haven't been contacted by anyone about i-983. Can anyone throw some light on when would this begin? I am assuming that my start date will not commence until i have a 983 form and I happen to put down my notice at current firm way ahead to join another job which eventually fell through. Mandatory TC - 130k Mandatory YOE - 3.2 #microsoft #stem
Msft did cancel my interview because i had only 18 months left in my OPT. ☹️
There is a dedicated team for stem opt at Microsoft, have you been given a us immigration contact ? It’s best to reach out to them. They respond back fairly quickly. Or ask your recruiter to provide you with an us immigration contact. I believe I983 would happen only after you join the company. Then you can directly reach out to the stem opt team. They draft and send the application to USCIS end to end and are pretty quick.
This is what I was looking for. I was thinking that 983 would happen before joining but if it is after joining then I assume it'll be easier. Thanks for the information.
@T-mobile, what happened in your case? Did you submit the i-983 after joining the MSFT. I recently received an email from immigration team that I have to submit i-983 before confirming the start data at Microsoft. I haven't received any email from STEM OPT team.
Hi, so did you receive email from STEM OPT team eventually?
@Medtronic are you in the same boat ? Did you receive email from them?
OP any update?
You can submit i983 after joining. Your manager has to fill and sign it.
