Microsoft Signing Bonus
Hi, I’m joining Microsoft next month, however my STEM OPT ends in early June next year (2020). I got good package from them, but the offer letter says “In the unlikely event that you leave the company of your own violation prior to completing 12 months, the amount $50,000 (sign-on bonus) will not be earned and must be returned to Microsoft in full”. If I didn’t get H1 next year, and if the team is not willing to send me to Canada (they don’t have team anywhere outside US), will it be my violation and do I have to return the money back.? Note: I’m not currently in Amazon. Current TC: $120k (~2 YoE) New TC: $200k
Or just ask the recruiter. Get it in writing.
If you have to leave the US they won’t be able to force you to pay anyway... just don’t come back to the US
They will send you to Canada with the same salary, don’t worry
Are you sure the salary would be the same if they send you to Canada? I’m also in the same situation. Would they be willing to send employees to Canada or would it be difficult to convince them to send to Canada?
The recruiter told me that before I signed with Microsoft as I was concerned about visa. I think Microsoft did it for many people I know who couldn’t get H1B and they would come to the States again as L1
They paid (past) lower salary in Canada, but if you want to continue at MSFT and come back on L1, it might work for you.
Its really a good package for 2 yoe, did you had any competing offers?
Microsoft US and Canada are two different entities.
I am not in software. My team is currently only in US
Don't worry as long as you are in Microsoft US or Canada they won't ask joining bonus back. I can tell you from experience was in US then transferred to Canada and now back to US
Does your new TC include joining bonus? Or is it 250k with joining bonus?
I would think that’s not of your own volition.
