Does anyone know what is the policy for walking out a software engineer from Microsoft when he gives notice and is leaving for Facebook or Google? Any real life experiences? Is it consistently the same experience or it depends on your manager?
You are permitted to visit the snack room for 60 seconds to take your last helping of quest bars and hot pockets before being kicked out the building.
Just put in 2 weeks notice, you'll sign some forms and that's it, 2 weeks of paid vacation.
If you put more than two weeks, you might get fired instead. If you don't disclose, they assume a competitor so it's the same. In my case, they asked me to stay that same day I disclosed and do transition. Told me not to come afterwards. Almost two weeks of paid leave is nice
I left MSFT to work at one of the FANGs. After I submitted my resignation, I was asked to hand in my laptop by noon that day, and was given two weeks of pay. It was fairly smooth and there was no drama.
Why don't you want to get walked out? 2 weeks without snacks?
I do want to get walked out btw. Not sure where your assumption is coming from...
Easy as telling your manager that you have another opportunity, you’re putting in your two weeks notice and go from there. As long as you leave before stock/bonus or are a good performer you will always be able to come back if it doesn’t work out
Got walked out the next day of submitting my resignation. Going to FB. Do it 2 weeks before joining date. They don't pay more than that
Left for FB and was not walked out. Also didn’t tell people where I was going.
What if you’re in the middle of some coding task? Do they want it handed over?
Coding tasks do not matter. You are escorted by HR and security, not your manager. If you leave for competitor (goog), you are certainly escorted. If not (FB?), then probably not. Who is a competitor? It is decided by HR's scripts, not your manager or reality
What if you tell your manager where you’re going, but not HR?
Don't tell anyone where you are going dummy.
Dude free vacation!! Anyway what is a Twilio guy replying to this thread for??
