Microsoft h1b transfer premium processing
How do you request Microsoft to apply for premium processing during h1b visa transfer? The hiring manager is not ready to release1225$ needed for premium processing as he does not understand the complexity in visa transfer process. Inspite of explaning him multiple times, all he says is that attorneys told me you dont need to wait for an approval to join. In current environment, i am not comfortable to join without approval and then wait 5+ months for approval. Also it does put travel restrictions outside the US. Does anyone have recommendations on how I can pursue them to do premium processing? I know 2 more people who are joining other orgs are getting premium processing for their visa transfers. P.s offer was already accepted 3 weeks ago.
Wow, I am amazed that hiring managers at a company like Microsoft (which has a ton of H-1Bs) have no clue about the process. Take it up with your recruiter. Say that this is standard procedure and you will not jeopardize your visa status. Microsoft has probably done this a thousand times (transfers via premium processing). You would be adding to that number.
That's so weird. Did you try explaining him what would happen if you join on receipt and later get denied? That should be sufficient for him to approve premium processing. If that didn't work, tell him you can pay for the premium yourself ( if you are ready to, depends on how bad you want it). I am also in the process of getting my H1b transfer to MS and my hiring manager approved premium processing without any issues.
Actually, it was my recruiter who advised my hiring manager to do PP. so, try including your recruiter in the discussion.

See if you can pay that yourself. Internally Microsoft now allows employee pay that amount themselves for GC premium processing. This was not allowed earlier. There are many American managers completely unaware of the complexities and many of them don’t care as it does not affect them.

my friend is also in the same boat, he even told he would like to pay himself. But manager told that his organization is not doing pp for any people and only company can pay for the pp.
OP - how did it turn out? I’m in the same boat. Asked HM several times, they keep asking me to join on receipt and don’t understand my concerns with visa status and/or travel restrictions and what it means to not be able to go home if something happens. So frustrating. Immigration team keeps saying me paying for it isn’t an option.

Maybe ask your recruiter to put you in touch with whoever is in charge of visas for that department? It’s not the hiring manager’s job to understand these things- there is a whole department for it.
