Microsoft hiring event feedback

i interviewed with Microsoft this Monday on a hiring event for Microsoft Teams. the recruiter got back to me today with the feedback that I am more suitable for a PM role according to the interviewers. and also that if i want to interview for an SDE role, i would need to wait 6 months. What does this mean? I felt i did well in the interview. and during the hiring event they said they would hire everyone if they all pass the “bar”. TC: 135K

How do these events work? Do they do whiteboard algorithms with everybody?

Basically

What kind of questions did you answer and how did you answer?

They asked me very easy leetcode questions. I asked clarifying questions before jumping into code.. I also stated what I am going to do before writing the code. After writing the code.. I tested my code and stated the runtime. I gave best possible answer

🤔 then they suggested you as a PM

It means you didn’t meet the bar for SDE, and your skills are better suited for PM...

All 4 coding rounds I gave best possible answer.. but I still get rejected? What kinds of bar is that

So all 4 leetcode algo questions ? Did they have any system design round ?

T-Mobile boombaa OP Nov 13, 2019

Yes 1 system design round..

Did not clear bar for dev, although could also be code for ageism. I'd ask if they will consider for PM given the feedback. These days PM has more growth at Microsoft than dev.

T-Mobile boombaa OP Nov 14, 2019

What do you mean by “code for ageism”? Yeah they asked me if I wanted to interview for PM roles..

Microsoft Charlie.K Nov 13, 2019

Sounds like you didn’t meet the bar for SDE role. And let’s say you did, the team most likely only had a number of spots available which means they are going to offer to the top talent. Based on what your recruiter told you, the interviewers still see potential, just a different role.

Similar thing happened to someone I know for the Monday event for MSFT teams. Feedback was that code was not clean although all problems were solved. Also another feedback was that she didn't respond to hints suggested by interviewer which is incorrect. I really don't understand the process anymore. Recruiter did say that she can interview again soon. I guess they liked her code but it was not upto the bar in terms of clean? Any MSFT employees here to comment on this?
