Can any one who is working at Microsoft provide some details about software engineer levels. I’m 1yr experiences software engineer and they are offering me level 60, what does that mean? Also what is the range of these levels.
Lateral hire with under 2 yrs experience typically join as Level 60.. You should provide your offer details for anyone to give feedback if it’s good or not
That's a lower end level for SDE but probably commensurate with your experience. Level 63-64 are senior, 65+ are principal. If you're good then you can likely expect to promo fairly quickly up through 61/62.
Mine is a acquisition offer, location is Pittsburgh: 10% hike in base, 10k sign on, $50K RSUs over 4yrs
10% hike in base doesn’t mean anything. If you were severely underpaid, 10% isn’t gonna help. I don’t have experience with Microsoft offers, but $50k RSU is a bit low.
Yes agreed, since it’s an acquisition I don’t have much say to negotiate with no other offers in hand.
Microsoft has twice as many levels as a lot of companies. This means individual promos are smaller, but should generally happen more often. 59/60 is entry level SDE 61/62 is SDE 2 63/64 is Senior SDE 65+ is Principal 60 is totally reasonable for 1-3 years experience. It's possible to do better, but you're in the right range.
@Harmar thanks, very detailed.
I notice that ‘sudo rm -r’ deleted their racist post and ran away. Great, mission accomplished on this thread. I am going to hunt pos-trolls like them down on Blind, call them out on their shit, and show them for what they are.

Nice link
That sounds appropriate. College hires are hired at level 59, and good ones make it to 60 within a year, so you’re right on track. If you have competing offers (especially from the likes of google/fb etc) and had a stellar interview, you might be able to push them to 61, but I wouldn’t expect any better than that. Regardless, 60 is a fair level for your experience.
