Interviewed with Microsoft onsite which was followed by an additional interview to get a "stronger signal". They offered me verbally: Software engineer 2 - Redmond 120k base salary(said they are flexible on this) Equity 40k/4, 10k per year Said they offer relocation as a lump sum, also mentioned sign-on as being possible but no specifics yet. Mentioned the 10-20% performance bonus. TC: 130k + 12k perf bonus I have also have an offer from a startup post series B funding: Software engineer 120k base salary 0.03% equity(company valued at 100mil, obv would need to go public) Sign-on offered as relocation help 6.5k TC: 126.5k How strong is my position to negotiate with Microsoft given I had to re-interview but I do have a competing offer? I have 3yoe. UPDATE: After discussing with the MS recruiter they countered: -bumped salary to 135k, -added sign on of 15k -bumped equity to 70k -relocation 10k post tax TC first year: 191k
Is that L62? How many yoe u have
Recruiter wouldn't answer on the level so I assume L61. 3YOE.
Is the figure in Dollars or pounds?
Dollars, I already converted it for ease of comparison :)
Equity is piss poor. Even L60 get more equity over that. 10k per year will be nothing after tax
microsoft sucks! I work in a bank and get more than that, yet im searching for new job. 5YOE
Too low I had 1 yoe SDE1 Level 60 Same base as yrs More stocks and sign on than yr offer
Too low
Why does Microsoft do this to people? Does it not want to compete with other companies for good talent?
.03% is actually kinda shitty. Even if the ipo at a 100million, it's only 30k. I dont think that offer gives you much leverage with msft.
Yeah I was going to ask for more equity from the startup as that's why I would join a higher risk company. MS knows the location of the competing offer but no specifics. Shouldn't I be able to communicate that I value the startup offer for it's location/product and push for more equity as well from MS?
Worth a shot
