Great recession microsoft blinders, How bad were the layoffs in 2008/2009 period? I saw that msft was still doing well in 09 but they still cut a lot of jobs.
Do you think history will repeat itself in next economic downturn? From a pure financial point of view, the company is much stronger but I don't think that matters. The company is also a lot larger now.

  • They need to cut the bottom 15% across the board regardless of recession. We will move faster as a company to remove those who never should’ve been hired

    • What I am saying is retain the top 85% of each level. There is too much dead weight in 59-66. I don’t know any 67+ that would be here but I’m sure they exist.

I would take a strong, eager 59 over a weak 62 every single day

2000 was the tech recession, this time we are likely to get 2000+2008+ some more. So it will be blood bath. Good luck.

Yes, it happen every year. MS inside is like many companies combined into one. If it’s not hundreds of people at a time, it don’t get pick-up.

Seemed pretty arbitrary, some folks were clearly "we hired you recently". Later rounds did seem more like accelerated PIPs.

The severance packages were generous, I remember being a little disappointed. 6 months on the beach +3 months grinding for a new job would have been pretty nice.
