Will job market ever recover?
At amazon, stock refreshes depend on the old rsus that are vesting that year. Basically, if there is a huge increase in stock price of amazon, you get lesser stock refreshes that year. Someone told me that, at Microsoft its not the case - the amount of rsus or cash bonus does not depend on the old rsus ( that you got in previous years) that are vesting that year. Is that true ??
It is based on how well you did on your review. Most cases, it is comparable with previous years from a dollar amount. Based on the stock price at that time, you could get more or less shares.
RSU refreshers only depend on you level and you year performance (0-200% mult). It does not matter how much RSU y already have. Refreshers are very low though... 3-4 times lower than in FB/G at approximately same level.
It really only matters in the first couple years. Refreshers usually vest 2 years out. Those 2 years are usually don’t vest over each other so your awards don’t vest on top of each other and doesn’t really impact your next refresher. If the stock doesn’t rise enough you might also get awards for the following year as well as the second year.
We have too many new hires. You can tell because they are all here thinking their current situation is the long term
Yeah we do but you don’t really start noticing it until around year 4 which is well past new hire. The bigger problem is that it isn’t easy to grasp for outsiders who haven’t put in 4 years. All they hear about is from people who were new hires, left and went to their company talking about how bad the pay is. Really it’s just year like 1 - 3 where FB and G beat amazon in comp. after that it all starts to even out as long as you don’t suck. Or maybe that’s just a TT thing. I’ve had reports transferred to my team where I cringed at how low their pay was. For myself I’d have to get near the top of the E5 band to even match my current comp and my current position is lower than E5 at amazon. Of course my target comp never looks like that when I get it but by the time the stocks beat my total comp is usually almost 50% higher than it was at target.
yea it doesn’t depend, or it does.. really confusing actually since it’s hard to definitely tell if you had a refresh
