Depends on TC/Level. Both companies are good imo

Microsoft to anywhere is jump up πŸ˜„

Microsoft test.. Jan 9, 2022

says amazon. amazon recruiters send 6 emails/week

Microsoft abdhejdjr Jan 9, 2022

I get almost 2-3 emails every day from Amazon.

Stripe Lalamar Jan 9, 2022

L4 there has similar TC as Principal engineer in MS. Easy decision.

DoorDash Fooby901 Jan 9, 2022

L4 is much higher TC. I was 66 at MSFT, and got L4 offer at stripe (among others). Much much higher.

DoorDash Fooby901 Jan 9, 2022

Oh you mean Uber L4. Dunno, but very likely.

LOL πŸ˜‚ this is so funny!! Having worked in Microsoft I would say it’s a jump up. In fact, anywhere from Microsoft is a jump UP ⬆️

Uber used to be great place for tech. I enjoyed it there, and still recommend it. do make sure to reverse interview, Dara is a pretty mediocre CEO, no CTO for a while now so the place could be going down hill fast.

OP can you share your levels and TC at both companies?

Microsoft log4net OP Jan 9, 2022

Still to get !

Uber saulgdman Jan 9, 2022

Been at both. If you're looking to learn , push yourself, work on some cool tech and comfortable with ambiguity and some rchaos Uber will be a big step up including in TC. If you value a more stable job, with likely greater WLB MS will likely still be better.

Microsoft PHector232 Jan 9, 2022

Depends. Having interviewed a few times there, I would rate Uber easily the worst of all top billed companies. In fact, with their WLB, they are just Amazon's uglier sister on steroids. The only reason they are a top billing is because they pay insane amounts. I mean, if you are getting a lot more comp than at MS (which you might) and don't mind the toxic workplace, I think it is right for you. Of course learning will be there as well because it is a lot more chaotic than MS. So as someone else mentioned here, to learn and earn, go there, to live and breathe, stay at MS.

Uber saulgdman Jan 9, 2022

That's a false choice. I'm pretty sure there are parts of MS that are as if not more political than Uber. "live and breathe" is extremely dramatic πŸ˜…. The Chaos is more because it's a competitive business and some leadership churn leading to potential reorgs. I can't speak for Amazon but Uber culture is nothing like the pip stories there
