Hi everyone, I have 1 yoe. I have been interviewing and have the following offers from Microsoft and Amazon. ===================================== Microsoft Role: Software Engineer 1 (L60) Base: 120K Stocks: 50k (over 4 years) Bonus: 0 ~ 20% + 0 ~ 9k stock Sign on: 15K TC: ~164k (Number is after negotiation) ===================================== Amazon Role:Software Engineer 1 (L4) Base : 125k Stocks: 102K (5%, 10%, 40%, 40%) Bonus: 0 Sign on: 1st yr 38K, 2nd yr 27.5k TC: ~168k (initial offer) ===================================== Questions: 1. Which company is better for career growth?
Microsoft bro, amazon stocks not gonna go anywhere
Good point..
MSFT
Microsoft- Better benefits, wlb and team culture.
If you want better for learning/career growth I would definitely pick Amazon. If you want a better and more relaxed culture pick Microsoft.
Got it. I will need to think about it!
You can negotiate up to 180 for Amazon especially given the Microsoft offer, but Microsoft is likely better wlb
For both of them, I already told them my compensation expectation is 175k lol
How did you get at 164k microsoft? You’ll most likely get 10% bonus. And bonus stock vests over 5 years so if you get ~5k in September it’s like 1k per year. Microsoft has better 401k matching, ESPP and tuition assistance. I’d value all of that at around 12k~13k of cash value yearly. Im actually more bullish on amzn stock from here on out.
Microsoft new grad offers are a lot higher in stock...
yeah... that's why I kinda still want to negotiate..
How was the interview? Any system design?
MSFT has one round system design. Though Amazon says they won't have system design for sde1. But actually they do ask system design questions (but not hard, sth like NoSQL vs SQL, load balancing)during interviews.
How was the system design for Microsoft?
Microsoft, unless it's some boring team. TC is hardly a concern. Nearly 20k diff is hardly gonna impact you as opposed to wlb, culture etc
