Is it cheaper to eat chipotle everyday than buy groceries ?
My friend has new grad offers from both and he asked me for my opinion. I told him msft after looking at people in similar situations. But I think I have been biased. TC at msft will be better if he leverages Amazon offer, which he hasn't done yet. Amazon tc can't be negotiated. Objectively, on an average => Which one is considered more prestigious? Which one looks better on your resume. Which one is better for career? PS :- I know it's highly dependent on the team; hence on an average.
I don’t think it really matters. Does he want to be in Seattle or in Redmond/Bellevue? Does he have any idea what team he’ll be on at either? That makes a huge difference. In terms of prestige, working at one will likely clear resume filters for any faang and probably unicorn (maybe I don’t really know)
MS wins on WLB. Amazon for interesting work, on average. Comp often better at Amazon but not always. Both look good on resume, but when I see somebody who thrived at Amazon (survived 2+ years, at least one promo) I think "this guy fucks". Just getting hired at Amazon is not a strong signal unless it was for L6+. Obviously, beyond that, highly team dependent.
Which team matters. Both companies on resume are fine. Obviously if the person cares wlb and likes east side better, Microsoft. If wants to get married, stay in Seattle. The east side only has families, not much dating going on.
Microsoft better than amazon but not by a lot.
Amazon is more prestigious. And looks better in your resume. And will be more likely to get you jobs elsewhere in growing your career. Microsoft isn’t as bad these days but it just has nothing really going for it. It’s much easier though.
For new grads, Amazon. Just because you learn to grind which is pretty important to learn early in your career.
Amazon. Just look at the interviews at Google the employees are getting. Good brand. ;)
I used to associate Microsoft with wlb. But I am yet to find that in Azure. I enjoy the grind but that also means that no one should make generalizations. It’s misleading.
truth ^
Microsoft easily if the comp is the same.
The correct question is Amazon v Facebook.....
Lol ..nope
