Amzn: $130k base, $60k signing over 2 years, $90k stock 5/15/40/40
Microsoft: $112k base, $20k signing, $120k stock / 3.5 years (pre-negotiation, confident I can get higher)

Explanations in the comments much appreciated. Which looks better on the resume? Microsoft is Developer Division, Amazon TBD.

Amazon is the best for people just starting their career. Although not guaranteed, most likely you will learn a lot.

WOW I didnโ€™t expect Amazon to have no votes.

FWIW, I chose Amazon over MSFT because of money and how fast the former moves. I burned out really hard and Iโ€™d constantly tell ppl that Iโ€™d take a $20K cut if it meant Iโ€™d have time to myself and my loved ones. YMMV but yea I had a bad time at Amazon

  • Been in both. You'll make much faster career growth in AMZN. MSFT growth is driven by duration you spent per level usually. It is extremely slow at early levels.

      OP
Is it worth risking PIP for / generally having a really bad time? I know not all teams are like that, but some teams definitely seem to be.

Because of the vesting schedule both offers will be pretty similar for the first year. And you can still negotiate at MSFT.
You should also consider that with the (generally) good WLB at MSFT you can easily prepare for other companies the next time you want to switch.

Amazon for faster growth. People go to Microsoft to rest and vest (unless you're in MSR), and you don't want to be doing that at the start of your career.
