A bit torn between the two right now. Front end engineer, got offers from both of these and Amazon (which I'm not as interested in). On the one hand Google is Google, but Microsoft lately has been on a tear culture wise/etc and I'd be able to use a lot of open source stuff there for web development. Granted learning how the internal frameworks etc work at Google would be pretty awesome as well. Curious what others opinions are on satellite office Google vs Microsoft main campus. Assuming compensation is the same (MSFT is telling me it can match)
Just an observation: M->G flow is much higher than G->M.
You can always go to Microsoft. Google on the resume opens door for almost anything else in the future.
Very good point. That's one of the biggest things for me right now
Microsoft still full of politics. I'd pick G right away.
That’s one of the reasons I wouldn’t use to pick Google over Microsoft. They’re not too different in this regard.
Yeah I've heard both sides on this one. I really like where Microsoft is headed lately culture wise. But I don't know if it's where I'd want to be yet
What team at MS?
Part of the office 365 suite. One of the newer products
Go to Google, getting a job at Microsoft is easy.
Go to G, you can always come back to MSFT!
Very good point.
Come to Microsoft. I want to work at Google and one less working there makes an easier road for me.
Lol
:P
Focus on team and level than brand name. In general Google is better than Msft.
Really appreciate all the replies. Sounds like most are thinking what I've been leaning towards (Google is much more worth it even with satellite office)
You are always better off at the main campus if you are driven to succeed and will be able to network and pick right projects
Only exceptions are game changing stealth projects
Yeah that's one of the things I'm a bit worried about. However they are expanding their office here and I'll probably end up moving in 3 years so not as big a deal as it would be long term. Appreciate the note though
