I have one offer from Microsoft L60 119k+30k bonus+75k in stocks in Redmond area and one from Workday Software Engineer 3 125k base + 115k in stocks in bay area. I am having a hard time deciding which one to take. Which one should I accept considering career growth and work life balance.
Do you know what teams you'll be on for each? Do you have a preference for either team? Microsoft definitely has more name brand power if that's important to you. But also you have to consider if you want to live in the bay area. The commutes can be hellish
both teams r equally attractive from what I hav discussed....and its hard to judge for me without actually working in the teams...for microsoft its the ecommerce team....
It might be a good idea for you to search "bay area vs. Seattle" posts in blind and see which place you like living at
Offers are missing details such as annual cash bonus (Microsoft's target is 10%, 20% max) and refreshers. Unless the refresher from workday is super high looks like Microsoft's offer is better and at a lower COL area.
i m not sure how stock refresher works....bt no mention of it in workday offer letter....how is growth and promotion possibility at Microsoft?
Microsoft career growth is - 2.5 to 5% annual base salary raise (not counting promo raise) - level promo every 1-2 years until senior, every 2-3 years until principal. Each band has 2 levels. Promos have 5-7% base salary raise but no stock grant. - in addition to cash bonus, there's a small stock refresher each year (vesting in 4 years) in a slightly lower range than the cash bonus.
I know some people who are at Workday and they say the work life balance is great there. I have lived in both areas and I would pick Workday in the bay area over Microsoft.
Workday
any specific reason?
You are in your early career. Location and co are more important.. if it's Walmart vs Microsoft, I'd pick Microsoft.
Microsoft. Workday hires mostly coming from Oracle. It's Oracle, Jr.
Don't work for Workday, they have their own proprietary programming language which means your skills will be less transferable.

how can i loose 5 pounds with small changes to lifestyle
Microsoft, the difference is not much to compensate for bay area living standard and Microsoft brand.
Workday is in a much cheaper corner of the Bay area though.
