Good data is critical for a better understanding of sars-cov-2. The fatalty rate of the virus is tricky to calculate, since the total number of infections is hard to get or controversial.

So what better way to get an estimate of how dangerous this virus is for various demographics than looking at a population that is exhaustively tested, such as the Military. The denominator, the number of total infections, is found through direct testing, rather than statistically.

Out of 5765 infected as if 5/19, 2860 recovered, 2 died.

The case fatalty rate for cases with an outcome is .07% (7 in ten thousand) and the CFR for all infections is .03% (3 in ten thousand)

I would classify this as great news, sowething that maybe should be shared and discussed more!

    1. Military may have had a higher rate of exposure? So the denominator may be lower in normal population?
    2. Military members possibly have the highest immunity rates? (Better fitness, better diets etc)
    Just hypothesis

Absolutely, they should not be used to derive fatality rates for 80 year olds, for sure, or to infer infection rates for the general population.

This tells us just that: if you are 30 on average, healthy and get infected, your odds of making it are roughly 99.995%

Better fitness than average population? Probably. Better diet? No way. Military eats like complete shit and lives on energy drinks.

Civilian, dependant, and contractor death rates are all higher. Is this population tested less thoroughly?

Right on, that’s definitely a factor: as a result we see numbers that resemble the general population.

Also, the age and the fitness level would be different, that’s another factor.
