I received an offer from Mellinium Management for a software engineer role in a risk analytics team. I was told the maximum they could do was $170K base plus bonus which would give me a TC of $220K. TC - 160k YOE - 12+ in backend Java development in FinTech
Go and then look for fang immediately. You are seriously overdue for some bump in comp. At this comp level, you will be making the same as some 3-5 yoe who does Excel spreadsheets and plays poker with the portfolio manager on Thursday nights.
I was offered around 220K TC for a engineering-Esque role (almost same numbers as yours) a year and a half ago. Great people, I’d try to shoot for 250k if possible at the least. Good luck!
One of my friend joined at 320k TC... Negotiate...
How ? They said base caps at 200k ... and bonus is around 30-35% ...
Yes, base caps at 200 but in this person's case rest was bonus...
Curious but why is your username fuckFaNg? Did you get rejected?
Just like that ... tried a few usernames that came to my mind and only this one was available lol ... no agenda ...
Agree with all the comments here. HFs will typically give you 20-30% more that your current comp. Did you tell the recruiter your current TC?
Nope I didn’t tell them my current TC
Some suggestions: 1. Get competing offers. HFs will play the bidding game. 2. Accept Millennium since it's easily better than what you currently have. Switch again in 2 years. That should put you in the 300-350k range. 3. Ask for a sign on bonus.
Millennium is a known gulag, that comp and role is shitty, but I guess it looks good on a resume and you’re a “backend Java dev” so ..
And what exactly do you mean by “you’re a “backend java developer” so ...” ?
Rightly or wrongly it’s kinda looked down on. So a prestige bump wouldn’t hurt
Can someone please refer me at Millennium?

Seems low but still an improvement over what you’re making now
Yes well before 2018 in NYC there was a bias of offering lower numbers to people who made low numbers .... even tho wage gap still exists .... at least now I can bargain based on my expectations and not what I make ...
