How do you bring up with your manager when one of your peers is clearly a mis-hire. L6 TPM with zero technical knowledge (week 3 asked me “what is a code review”) and has a whopping total of 2 years of corporate experience. It’s getting tough working with him. How do you bring this up with your manager? Do you go to the skip level?
Wow can I have their job?
Ask your manager what he/she thinks of this TPM. Maybe you are not the only person noticing this.
L6 with 2 YoE?
So called BS leadership principle questions has led to this.
Guess he aced leadership principles
To TPMs benefit he is TPM not PM-T and among TPMs I’ve met here their tech side wasn’t stellar. Teaching about code reviews doesn’t take long. Anyways TPMs in our org mainly manage schedules and team collaborations, meetings and such so having no idea what code reviews are doesn’t really hold them back. Maybe he raised the bar for his role, after all a lot of managers at amazon I’ve seen aren’t very technical. Sad thing is when it’s an SDM.
btw I didn’t at first realize it’s not an amzn post, which it should be if you want a better insight into the role .
Why does a TPM need to know anything about a code review? Customers care about quality, not how the engineers deliver it. I’m guessing the person is an L6 for a reason. Amazon does not hire lightly into L6.
Do you trust their manager will figure it out? I wouldn't go out of my way to help fire a peer.
What team and location? I think i found a new job
