What are the pros and cons of working in Goldman Sachs.
1. How do I give my best and contribute to this division?
2. How do I get promotions and grow in this organization?
3. How do I work towards getting more bonus and increment in my salary?

Is there anything I should watch out for? Mistakes I should not make

I don't mind working 10-12 hours a day. Since I am starting my career I want to learn and grow in position and in total compensation. I wish to stay long and grow within the organization.

Stay a year or two for experience then move on. Learn as much as you can - they are one of the better areas of the firm. Comp won't go up like it does for tech firms. Manager relationship is key for comp. Learn from my mistakes :)

What about the increments on base salary and the year end bonus? Could you share more details on this. i read that you mentioned that the relation with the Manger is the key. My question was towards how much increment I could expect ?

Mine averaged out around 10% TC increase every year. No idea what you should be expecting these days as new hire. But you really gotta be looking for exit opportunities in a year or so. Don't have your hopes for any meaningful increase at GS - it's not going to happen.

  • Won’t your VP has a say in bonus or it’s just the MD ? I manage my MD well but not too comfy with my VP :) she competes with me ;)
