Ur current TC often isn’t considered when negotiating. Google especially is known for usually only matching/exceeding external competing offers rather than ur current TC (in most cases).
I don't get this logic. Why would anyone take a pay cut to work at Google? Only people who are desperate to leave their jobs (either in PIP or dev list would take such an offer)
Your current tc is a factor but external offers matter more. Goog will compete against your grant value. From Amazon, it's possible to take a pay cut in the short term. People will still take this since goog has higher tc target so if amzn stops appreciating so quickly, Google's pay will easily beat Amazon. Coming from amzn, you should try to get competing offers so you don't take a pay cut in your rsus vesting soon. External offers are obviously forcing goog to compete on grant value
They will pay you what you can negotiate. No one is going to hand you anything. They want to pay you as little as possible. You want to get as much as possible. Where you land between the extremes is all negotiation.
