Hi guys, I am confused, please help. I just graduated (P.h.d) and have an offer from Google ( L4 ). On the other hand I have another fulltime offer ( Govt research lab ) that might get me a green card (EB1B) within 3-4 years. The dilemma is between money and green card. 4 year job at Google means $$$ but with the other offer I would be earning maximum 90 to 130k per year for 4 years ( with a high probability of getting a green card within 4 years ). Ultimate aim is to open multiple businesses and earn $$. I want to get out of this H1B slavery thing and be independent. Which is better in the long run, please poll!! PS : I am an Indian. Please guide me with your suggestions.
I don’t think any employment based category will give you green card in 4 years. As an Indian you should expect around 6-7 years as EB1 is severely backlogged
Always money. Green card doesn’t feed you.
Take my advice. If your parents r not all that strict with the arranged marriage thing then marry someone local non Indian. Join Google, get i140 so that using cross chargeable priority date u can use her/his nationality and get GC sooner. My friend fell in love with a Bangladeshi girl who was on H1b and did this recently. Lucky bugger.
Troll alert anyone?
Please don't do it. I have never worked in industry except some internships. I respect you industry guys a lot. Please don't troll and give wise suggestions.
Why do you think this is troll @microsoft?
If you see yourself establishing your life here then you need the gc. You get that gc and then you will be on the fastrak to 💵 💵 💵 Besides, you won’t be getting paid 5 digits. 130 ain’t bad.
Can you teach us how does gc help you get fast cash?
Thanks, I want to get out of the H1B slavery thing and open multiple business to earn $$$$. That's why I am asking. Going for EB1 via Google or Govt research lab. Which one would get me the gc fast ?
Troll!
What's the government research lab you are taking about? Is this the national lab? What makes you think they will be faster? Government is slow, someone is going to forget to file your stuff or he is going to be out vacationing or you'll be faced with government shutdown for two months etc. Go to fucking Google and wait however long it takes to get your GC.
Unfortunate but true
Thank you for your kind words. I appreciate your honest reply.
With a PhD, you can apply EB1 yourself. It will cost around 6~10k if you file through a lawyer.
EB1A has become extremely difficult to be approved these days, chances of EB1B are way better and hence better to apply via employer
That's why I am thinking that if applying organizations matters? Mine would be EB1B
Google should also get you a green card in Eb1 if you have a PhD.
Other offer is from non profit organization ( US GOVT research lab ). What should I do as I also want to earn money ?
Huh. Apparently you didn’t get your green card in trump era.
