I am an engineer and had experience in markets. I have been making 500k consistently for over 3 years now. i primarily hold stocks for swing and some times day trade.

I got an offer at top 10 B school to pursue MBA.

If I focus on markets, i could potentially end up making decent amount and might continue to increase the skill although it is unpredictable. I know I have passion and work ethic needed for markets. But i havent expected to get in the top MBA prgrams.

If you are a decent MBA grad from top 10 school, what would be salary cieling in the next 15-20 years. is it worth pursuing MBA to increase TC and transition into better roles that pay well and that have good work life balance while letting go of my interest in markets?

TC: 120k

Everyone is a genius in a bull market. How much are you up in the last month? MBAs are worthless unless if they’re top 3, and even then the opportunity cost needs to be worthwhile

Top 3 even seems a bit too early of a cutoff. Don’t listen to engineers on blind who don’t know a lot of business people. Anything in top 50 can be worth it if you have the money to pay for it, if you don’t have the money then Opp cost might trim that to top 20 or so, but still

Uh business person here. The adege that only the top 3 is worthwhile is mostly true. Not to say that you can't go to other school, just that usually it's not worth your time.

By the time you're past top 7, it's pretty much garbage. Don't bother at that point.

Top 50. Lmfao. Do you even know what school top 50 is? It's Eccles school of business at the university of Utah, only know this through Google search, has anyone even heard of that school before? Wtf are you gonna do if you graduate from there, assuming that you're not willing to work for the local employer of that town?

Top 20 is like gozuetta business school at Emory University. Again, never heard of this school

MBA will generally teach you a lot about different domains you will have exposure to generally speaking. Top 3 is bull. Top 20 is good enough depending on what you’re targeting to get out of it. However, your pay will not go up. You’re at top of the bracket

Not true. Look up L7 PMs at google. Like every place, your ceiling is your potential. MBA is 2 years of your life. Think about it as an accelerator vs basic requirements. You’re much more than an MBA. Your ability to execute, solve problems and eq generally drives your career.

  • Any decision you take should not be based on a TC based goal IMO. Think about what you see yourself doing 10 years down the line, and if a 2 year MBA sets you up for success then take that bet. If that 10 year goal is aspirational, money would come in regardless. A 120k or a 140k or a 160k will not change your life fundamentally. Don’t invest in your career to optimize for the shorter term, but think about the longer term.

Focus on markets don’t let mba distract you unless it’s from top 3

  • There is no salary ceiling, that's why folks pursue business. Eng has a high floor and low ceiling, business has a low floor and no ceiling.
