Monta Vista lynbrook high worth it?

My Asian colleagues all swear by these high achieving schools, but their recent admission to UC and top colleges have been abysmal, they say it's due to Asian hate. My question is do you see value in these schools and would you pay the exorbitant house prices just to go there?

It is not worth it. Most kids in those schools are good so much higher competition to get into good universities and lower success rate. Better chance of getting UC admits from a school where there’s less competition.
Plus there is crazy amount of pressure in those schools- why would one want to put their kids through that

@walmart, sorry I don't understand your logic. These parents went through high-demanding academic schools and found success in life. You suggested that time has changed, let the kids have fun and expect the same success?

My point is that you don’t need to be in cut throat environment to find success - that’s not the only way to find success. You can find success in other schools too - it’s about working smart not just working hard

No. Just live where you want, school does not determine kid’s success. Those who want to succeed will.

Absolutely @amazon. It has to do with the values that you instill in your kids as a parent.

      Your statement is too idealistic.

If your kids attend a school with drugs, bullies problems where everyday they have to go through a metal detector, no matter how much "values" you want to instill to your kids, it most likely won't work.

It's no coincidence that kids in the "best" schools also have some of the highest rates of depression, suicide attempts, mental health issues, etc.

UC admission is partially determined by relative strength within the school.

Your kids will be tough as nails academically (if they’re that kinda person) but you could do poorly relative to your classmates. Not too much of an issue outside of the UC system, however it’s still probably good for the kids academically

Would like to add that schools aren’t the end all be all, and despite a holistic approach, test scores still do matter imo. (Maybe this has changed since then) I did poorly relative to most of my peers, but I had good test scores and was able to get into a couple of top colleges despite the poor grades. Ultimately college is what you make out of it and it doesn’t matter really where people go imo

I went to one of these schools; its better to be a big fish in a small pond and get better grades than be a small fish in a big pond. Networking in college > networking in high school.
