Always wondered what the motivation behind people buying luxury cars like BMW, Audi etc. was.

Safety features you don't get on consumer-friendly cars (such as radar based gradual breaking, lane assists, attention assist, ABS, TCS, daytime running lights, etc.

People less likely to fuck with you on the road. If you'd driven a luxury car, you know people are way less aggressive towards you because they don't wanna risk a huge insurance claim on their records.

Luxury cars are generally (much) faster. Faster acceleration makes your life easier in traffic, and sometimes even save your life in fitting situations.

Convenience features such as auto rain-sensing windshield wipers, auto high beams, auto distance cruise, auto dimming mirrors, auto closing windows in rain, auto adjusted & memorized seats, down-hill rollback assist, break hold, the list goes on and on.

Better (I mean, way better) sound systems. Bang & Olufsen, Harman Kardon, Bose, etc. I'm an audiophile. Worth every penny.

DCT transmissions for the win (if applicable), all day.

Impress your dates. Works for me, at least.

I drove a Honda, then a Toyota. The Toyota was way better than the Honda.

Then, I drove a Lexus. The Lexus was way better than the Toyota.

Then, I drove a BMW. The BMW was way better than the Lexus.

Then, I drove an Audi. The Audi was NOT better than the BMW.

Then, I drove a Porsche. The Porsche is better than the Audi and similar to the BMW.

I can never drive a Honda again because I perceive it as an inferior car that doesn't fit my taste and standards. If you drive a Honda, I could care less.

  • People with expensive cars are usually idiots about why they want them. My favorite are the folks who so clearly need a minivan but can't stomach the thought and get a more expensive, less safe, less comfortable SUV with less storage space. Grow the F up.... you're a parent.

  • Trying not to sound like a dick here but...my BMW was one of the best investments I've ever made. Not because of the improved handling, interior etc but because of what it means to me to step into it everyday. Because of the question I ask myself when I step inside "what did I do/ will I do to deserve this car" I have blown through all expectations of my job and earned far more than I would have going down the route of an average car without those daily reminders. To be exceptional, you need constant reminders that you are exceptional-- a nice car certainly helps with that. That being said, if you can't afford one, don't buy one. That's just dumb.
