Motivation to work on .net and Microsoft internals

As Microsoft tech stack is not used anywhere outside Microsoft (at least in big companies). How does people get motivated to work on these tech stack for say around 5 years. Because when u jump to new company u will have to start from zero again. Need some insight from experienced people. I worked in oracle with shit called adf and i don't think it will ever be useful in my entire career anywhere. Will it be same case with ms tech stack.

it’s not from zero, far from it. all modern technology is about the same and .net is somewhat ahead of java in many aspects. so a lot of .net knowledge is translatable especially at larger system designs. Yes you may struggle with syntax a little bit and language nuances, but majority of the knowledge that matters is about systems and what kind of pitfalls there are. also .net is somewhat widely used in a range of companies, just not FANG.

Being a software engineer is not about being able to understand a specific tool or stack. No matter where you go you'll have adapt and being good at your job means you can adapt easily because every framework is built off the same fundamentals.

Amen, this is why anyone who calls themselves "Java Engineer" or "React Developer" are only limiting their opportunities and potential.

Indeed. Learning new company’s internal tools, processes, the software under development is 90% of the efforts when on boarding. Learning the language and a standard library is trivial in comparison.

.net is used in a lot of banks, accounting firms, etc. (Tesla lol) tbh I find it really difficult when applying jobs. Most company would want someone who’s familiar with their tech stack, I guess companies like FANG wouldn’t mind that much because they are looking for good software engineers in general. But anyway, I like C# better than Java.

You write from @Goldman. Not sure if trolling but don't you have that weird insider programming language that no one else on the planet uses? .net is popular on comparison.

But in Goldman most of the teams uses java spring etc. That weird internal Lang (slang) is only used in trading systems only.
