Hi,
I recently moved out of Intel to Nvidia to a job role very similar (6 months back). But the kind of work and exposure I had at Intel was far better than what I am getting at Nvidia.

Granted my salary at Intel was not great, but I do not get any satisfaction with the work I do here at Nvidia.

My old manager contacted me to come back to Intel. I am seriously considering it now that Intel is paying pretty well.

Is it too soon to quit Nvidia? Or should I give at least a year and then consider it?

Also I hear if I go back to Intel within a year, I'll get back my unvested rsu?

Any advice appreciated.

  • Not soon, rather looks good that your old manager wanted you back.

Thanks. But wondering if I'll be burning the bridges with Nvidia which I do not want to. :(. Real question is how soon is too soon?

New comp structure? Plz elaborate. I know Pat has big plans to revamp compensation but is it being deployed for existing employees (except CTR)?

Hi op, I don’t know the specifics, but I would say higher responsibilities come with trust. Since you’re 6 months into your role, you can’t compare with intel where you were employed for a long time, I would say give a shot to Nvidia. Bring this to your new manager, define what you want to work on. Discuss your next six months and bring it to his attention where you would like to grow further. It takes good amount of ramp in Nvidia, it can be painful and once you aced your ramp up, manager trusts you with more responsibility. My manager also told me 6 months into the role, is where the new employee ramps up and the actual work comes after that. So I would say don’t be disappointed in just six months. Few of my seniors in my team who joined nvidia as architects, they told me it took them ~1-1.5 years to get to the stage where they were in intel, visibility wise and contribution wise! All the best :)

I would expect an ic4 to be contributing a lil more than what OP said but agree on staying till one year mark, taking one stock vest and then dipping. Let your ex manager know that, then best of both worlds for you

Makes complete sense. Thanks for this. I have raised the concern to my manager. He is understanding of it. Hopefully it gets better.

Does Intel have a boomerang policy? Like is there a restriction on how many times you can join then after leaving?

  • I would say 6 months is long enough to know if you like the work. Don't worry about the bridge and move back if you think Intel provides you a better future
