I got an offer from a tech company in New York few months ago before the covid thing started. I'm currently in Redmond and I now have an option to join the company virtually from anywhere I like. One of my main reason to move was to experience life in New York, should I move and wfh from there or should I wait till this is settled and join from Redmond? Things I'm considering - Moving pros: start living in NYC, won't have to deal with relocation in middle of job career Cons : covid situation makes relocation hard, will be still wfh
WFH from Redmond. Let them know the current economic situation makes it impossible for you to move right now. And when everything is settled, let your manager know in advance you will need to take time off to move.
Thank you, I'm going to all these.
Unless you have a strong reason to work from Redmond, why don’t you work from somewhere even cheaper and nicer?
Wait a year. Everything is closed now. Move next year when things are better. Rents will be down by then, and things will be improved health wise. NYC got hit hard but it is managing it well. Most Of the Red states are in upward trajectory and will be feeling the pain soon. Also there will be less tourists in the next few years, which is a good thing as they can be annoying. There will be less crowds and businesses will have to cater to locals (they can be annoying)
You don't get any of the benefits of living in NY now, and your costs would go way up. Wait it out
Save your money and work from home in Redmond. NYC is a disaster zone right now. Plus, rents there are still the highest in the nation along with SF.
Bruh have you been reading the news about NYC, it’s not a good time to move
