Move from SDE 2 to SDM

I am an sde 2 at amazon got promoted last year around april. Does anyone know how much time it takes for someone to transition to an L5 SDM from an L5 SDE? Do you need to be an sdm already to apply outside or can you apply for sdm positions directly outside? Also if you switch within amazon from SDE to SDM how much salary hike can I expect?

That would be least of your concern because you’d have to deal With earning respect of L4s in your team who’ll treat you like shit first
