Hi Guys, Hope all you guys are keeping safe. I'm around 10 years experienced in a bunch of system-side companies. Over time I have got this feeling that these companies have pretty much plateaued in growth and they are NOT fast when it comes to embracing new tools and ways of developing software, be it design or development. Many old folks have just climbed up the management ladder and they don't seem to be enthusiastic enough to inspire the folks working under them. All I see is some bug fixes and work around (which are bound to introduce more bugs). Coffee break conversations are usually all about how to survive and negotiate more bonus and mundane stuff. I feel my career is a bit stymied when it comes to becoming a better Software Engineer in these companies. I have even attempted to suggest some improvement in the existing software so that things look more professional but there seems to more effort towards just instant gratification trying to just finish up whatever is pending and then go home. To be frank I have a profile that goes something like C/C++, Linux, OS, Concurrency and Multi-threading, few open source tools like GIT and of course domain specific knowledge (like Network Protocols, Switch, Router, packet pipeline, etc.) I'm not sure how good this is for my career going ahead. That's why I wanted your opinion about how to transition to Cloud companies with this kind of profile. I'm on H1-B, so I can't quit my current job and take up some degree. All I can manage is Coursera, Udemy and Udacity. Are these good places to start by earning Nano degrees and Certifications? Further, I want to know what should I even learn to get calls to these Cloud companies. FAANGs are the only one's that are open and they look for competitive programming skills (like Leetcode, etc.) and I'm anyway going to try those eventually. But still, is leetcode the only way to transition to these companies? Are there people here in the same boat? If yes, do share your strategy to come out of this rut. Leetcode will you fetch you faang for sure. Amazon is the best shot since they don’t care much about background. Another possibility is try to get into a descent startup . Usually startups don’t care about background too. Once you work for a year or two then you can try the other companies in the same domain
