SDE 2 at Amazon with 26L, 33 stocks units in India. My wife is also working with 12B and 10L worth of stocks. Is it wise to move to Seattle now, considering she has to quit and travel with me? I'm not sure about living costs and savings in Seattle. Is it financially a good decision?
Also your quality of life in india will be better than in the US.
It will dent your wife's career if she is not authorized to work. And it's hard to match your lifestyle in the US with a single earning
Don't move unless you can guarantee your wife will get to work. Apart from the financial loss, there's also all the emotional stress from not getting to work as a highly skilled individual.
Thanks BigTrunk. Amazon takes care of EAD for dependants. In that case,is it still difficult to find a job?
This. I know many people who moved back because the wife couldn't work. Trump has been trying to eliminate the option for the spouse to work. Not sure what the status of that is. You never know what that guy will pull. If your wife can be a homemaker, the assessments are different.
Come to US if your wife can take a long vacation or something. You can roam around different parts of the US - Hawaii, Alaska and all inclusive vacation in Mexico. You’ll earn some money and go back. Otherwise doesn’t make sense.
Thanks sleepy. But that isn't the motive bro/sis! I just wanna earn as much as I can and get out within 3yrs
With single income you will not save much in US in 3 years.
It's a pretty lonely place for someone coming from India. Especially for your wife since if she won't be able to work. Maybe try it for a few years
Yep not worth it.
If coming on L1A n ur wife gets an EAD..then come.. wife will have to find a job on EAD n can start work...I both will like it.. in my opinion...if L1A...great move....coz if amazon files ur GC...in L1A category..u will get it in 3 yrs or something...so better than H1B
The only plus if at all i see is if you want to travel through the US and see places. But with your salary and savings you can as well plan a vacay and do that. Moreover not sure how much with amazon style of work, you will be able to do that. I moved 2 years back and trust me life is not easy. And with your spouse cant work at all it becomes even more painful. Savings wont be much as well.
Move to amazon on L1 visa. Wife will easily get EAD in 2-3 months, she will just hv to do job hunting. If she is willing to do that, just move. It will be great for you both professionally, and financially. Also, take it as a positive opportunity to live and enjoy a new country. I see no reason for u to not move
Current processing for any type of EAD is 6-8 months without RFE
Only positive comment in this thread. But yes, EAD isn't easy. Attorney himself said 8-12 months in case of a colleague.
No.
Thanks, but can you plz elaborate on why?
How old are you? Do you have kids? Are you willing to work at Amazon forever? H1B is tough to get If you want to switch companies.
