People keep cribbing about compensation, rightfully. But the difference you're seeing is not as signficant as it appears. There are a lot of benefits we take for granted in Microsoft. Just over a month in Amazon and I'm already noticing that very clearly. There is a problem to fix, but not as bad as people complaint here. And yes, the internal vs new hires difference is still a big concern I think. The other side of the grass is always green!

I guess itâs a reference to the huge sign on bonus and stock resulting in new hires having much higher compensation than employees who have been at the company longer.

We're also usually 1st-2nd tier sponsors for tech conferences, hackathons or events like SXSW that our engineers present in or get to attend (another example is Grace Hopper). We don't get RSUs that's true.

What benefits do you miss?
401K match at Amazon is crap, healthcare is meaningfully worse, no paid gym membership, basically you get nothing much above your RSUs and pay. You donât even get free soda which every other company Iâve ever worked at gave me. I went the opposite direction so i was happy when I realized how different it wasâand MS bumped my pay anyway so that was a non-issue. MS has its issues but it crushes Amazon in this area.
