Considering moving from Bay Area to Austin. Planning to make an internal transfer via Apple. I am married with 2kids. My motivation is better cost of living. Anyone who has done this or knows a friend who has done this, please share your experinces. What do you like/dis-like about Austin. Do you miss anything about the Bay Area. TC - 210k
Be careful with all the mass shootings bro
It happened at the Gilroy Garlic Festival, 15 miles from San Jose. Can happen anywhere
Frequency matters.
Any change in TC ?
TC offsets way more the cost of living, so for me, as a single person, moving to Austin or Seattle isn't worth it. Your mileage may vary
Why Austin when there’s Seattle Eastside?
Don’t like Seattle weather
Austin is a wet sauna in the summer. Nature isn’t comparable, as well as TC and tech opportunities.
Austin’s weather is horrible. Traffic as bad as in the bay.
Yup agree don’t underistmate the fucking humidity and stickiness it’s brutal... and also do underestimate when LRs happen and they want to ‘consolidate locations’ and they cut you because your in Austin
Thanks finally someone spoke. Lot of people haven’t been to Austin and they think just from outside it’s too good and everything is perfect. Try driving on Mopac or 360, you won’t miss 101 😊
Austin is boring ..
Austin is junk , too hot - but obviously east coast would be better (New York)
You’ll probably think you made a good choice for about 2-3 years until you realize Austin is only so big, is kinda boring (it’s Good for 20-35 olds who want to go party) and is surrounded by absolutely nothing for hundreds of miles. You’ll be paying for your family to get on a plane regularly to visit anything remotely interesting.
I’ve lived in Austin for 12 years before moving back to the bay. Don’t waste your time in atx... - Very one dimensional town - very boring after the first 3 months of being there - much more expensive to live than most think - extremely hot and humid in the summer - February you can expect to be iced in (since the city doesn’t put money into the three days the streets could be iced over) - not many people from Texas, so you don’t get the true southern hospitality - school system for kids isn’t as great as they claim - culture of Austin that everybody loveD about it back in the day is completely gone - traffic is horrible (worse than the bay). Expect an hour to drive 2-5 miles - rain in Texas is no fun - breakfast tacos are about the only good thing there If there’s an opportunity and you can swing moving to Houston instead, do it. - tech scene is growing there (although you’ll be dealing with a lot of amateurs in the space that think they know what they’re talking about) - the culture and diversity of Houston is awesome - people are super friendly - tons of good food - lots of good schools - big town, lots to do - humidity, rain, and heat is just as bad as Austin
Atx isn’t that great compared to Bay Area but Lol Houston sucks compared ATX. It’s absolutely awful. Tech scene is god awful
