Would there be benefits to doing this? What are your thoughts on making this switch?
I've never worked at EA but from hearing about it from people who have, you would probably have less stress at Blizzard. TC is a ongoing struggle at Blizzard though, but there are other perks like stability and culture.
Stability? Not any more at least since 2016
Still feels pretty stable TBH. Sure it's not flying on rails with zero issues but compared to how I'm sure it is at some other places, it doesn't feel that bad.
@Blizzard, would you say most swe’s are working on currently releases game content, or new IP?
Go to blizzard if you just want to be a lifer somewhere and have decent WLB and fairly low stress Theres a saying i made up, orange county is where young people go to die Sounds dark but what it means is, this is the place many people move to, raise kids, keep a job until retirement (or at least stay in the same area) Theres a lot of older people at blizzard who have been around for ages and never intend to go anywhere else because its fairly chill, although recent stuff has made it a little rougher, its still a pretty relaxing place to be compared to other studios
One day...
Would advise staying far away from blizzard. Shit show
Can confirm it’s a shit show at Blizzard. Stick with EA
Irvine is the Safest City in America multiple years in a row. You can imagine what that actually means. Also Blizzard is only good if you can get on a game team. QA is garbage, Whatever the fuck today’s name for Battle.net is is garbage, the pay is garbage (unless you own a van and want to eat cup noodle forever)
It hurts to tell people to stay away from Blizzard. It was my dream company.
Plan on getting randomly stopped a lot by police in Irvine if non white
If you need stability stay away for a bit. If you're willing to take a chance come on over. The next couple years are huge for us.
Wait... Why? Word is that there's like nothing in the pipeline
One game cancellation != an empty pipeline. We must be hiring more devs for a reason 😉
You can always come to Riot if you are not happy at EA and Blizzard doesn’t seem appealing enough. :) Good WLB (no crunch), better comp than most game studios and nice perks.
Yeah but look at all the bad press
I think it was good that the first article came out as that triggered investigations and some cleanup of stuff that happened in the past. Things are better these days things are much better though and what you see in the press is just them milking the story for all they can.

They both suck
Besides lower TC for game dev SWE’s, what’s bad about working for a company like Blizzard?
It’s really not that bad.
