Moving from SAP to Apple : Feel Nervous

Working as SDE at SAP with good enough TC for low cost of living area. I graduated college 2 years ago and have been at SAP since, I am very comfortable and have a lot of friends in the area. Recently got an offer from Apple and will definitely will be doing cooler stuff with higher TC. Although I know this is the direction I should move, I am nervous to sign the offer and take the leap as this will mean moving to the Bay Area where I have never lived and starting again at a company whose culture I have heard is very secretive and not collaborative. Thoughts?

Think long and hard. It’s hard to make friends in the Bay Area

It’s normal to feel nervous, but absolutely go for it. If you hate it, you can always return back to SAP or visit your friends frequently. But this experience will be very valuable.

It's always a nervous step to take. But you'll be all fine after some months. You'll get accustomed to Apple's work life. Eventually you'll have a better resume. It'll push you to get into better companies and a better pay. You'll evolve to be a better swe. See the long term goals and make a leap of faith. You'll be all fine !!!

Do it, your young. Try some stuff that makes you a little uncomfortable. If it doesn't work just move back.

Do it. It will be worst before it gets better. But is you keep an open mind it will be the best decision of your life. SAP is in a political battle that will last the next 3 years, so you will be better off no matter what.

why 3years? 🤔

3 is a magic number in SAP. By 3 years if you can’t leave SAP, you stay forever with SAP. Lol

Be prepared to work harder, deal with traffic, no night (social life, except if you go to SF), as mentioned above no (real)!friends... But weather and outdoor life is great Apple on resume will look good

If you have no kids, I say do it. If you want kids, move out of the Bay Area or get a really high TC.

Do it. Just keep in mind that it’s hard to make friends as an adult in a new city, so be gentle with yourself and give yourself time. It might take 2 or 3 years before you find that core group of friends you really get along with.

Concur on the friend ( or should I say real friend ) philosophy, but for several other valid reasons .. Grab’em Apple !
