I recently joined Microsoft Sunnyvale office, and wondering how feasible it is to move to Microsoft Research, while being in Bay Area. Has anyone done that?
Hololens hardware is there, not quite Research but pretty cool stuff imo
Do you have a PhD? Whatâs your area of expertise?
Nope, no PhD. Interested in backend distributed systems
Then you should directly contact the systems group. Talk to them and see if they have something for you. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/research/group/systems-research-group-redmond/ An alternative more product oriented is David Molnar initiative on security https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/research/people/dmolnar/
I have a friend and mentor who just moved in research, he doesnât have a doctorate but he is genius level imo. Most are multi doctorate people though.
Is he in Redmond or in Bay Area?
MSR does not have a lab in silicon valley any more.
They laid off few researchers in 2014 and shut down msr in silicon valley. Impacted very senior ppl too.
Oh thatâs unfortunate
Sorry to bump an old thread up. What does MS have in Sunnyvale now? I only see power point opening there recently.
No
