I want to leave Yelp to be an EM at a stronger and bigger tech company like FB, Lyft, Pinterest etc. I have been an EM at Yelp via internal movement but not sure how to prepare for EM interviews at bigger tech firms. Do I have to be really strong at data structure, OOD and algorithms questions?
If you aren’t sure, then you moved to EM too soon.
I am not a EM yet. I want to move though but not sure if I should move as a swe to bigger company first and then into an EM role? Ideally I want to grow into atleast a director level role so I don’t have to deal with non sense technical interviews for future job changes and focus on impact creation
Why do you believe directors have impact? I can understand the frustration with Leetcode style interviews but that’s the wrong motive to move to mgmt
If you're at middle manager/senior software engineer level be prepared for coding and algorithms and system design. Probably more emphasis on system design but still expect to be added to code. The behavior Al questions should be easy to prepare for based on your experience.
For director level roles, are we still expected to code? Also what experience needed to be considered for director and VP level roles at top tech firms?
