Moving to Bay Area for Google
I recently accepted a G offer and will be moving to the bay, late next month. I will be working in Sunnyvale and dont mind commuting. I currently live outside Dallas and commute ~35 to 45 min to work. Any suggestions for good areas to stay in? Esp for a family of 4 (w/ two young kids). TC: 305k
Budget? Buy or rent?
Sunnyvale / Mountain View
If you donât mind commute. Consider Milpitas or South San Jose. Rent is basically linear in relation to proximity to Sunnyvale.
With 2 kids you want a good school zone, Cupertino, Saratoga, Los Gatos, Fremont are ur bets
+1. I used to live in Los Gatos and loved it. Very good schools and family friendly. Los Altos is also great but more expensive.
Is 305k your new tc at google or current tc in Texas?
New TC. I wish it was current TC in TX
How many yoe do you have? That tc is going to be rough for a family of 4 in the bay. If youâre going to rent a house, all of your money is gona go towards rent. Tell them you want the Austin office or 500k in the Bay Area else they can forget it. I donât have a family and didnât even consider moving to the Bay Area for less than 350k. Taking extra time team matching to get a team in Austin would be the best thing, but it looks like you already accepted the offer. Maybe tell the recruiter you thought about it some more and want to move to Austin. That tc isnât unreasonable at all for google in Austin.
