Moving to Europe

I'm considering moving to Europe from USA. Don't care about TC much as long as it is slightly above the CoL expenses. I'm considering Spain/Portugal/Germany. Any one has experience moving to one of these countries when you are not citizen of those countries or USA. If yes how did you go about getting the job? TC: 265k, not with amex

You will care once you receive your first offer of circa 40k €. And the CoL is on par or higher than the US so good luck with that...

I have lived in Europe twice, once in Germany btw. Rent, groceries and transport costs practically the same as US (bar bay area). Healthcare is free sure, but it is also free in the US when your company pays it for you.

What's the typical salary for someone with 8-10 years of back end experience with about 2 years at a fang? Saving 5-10k€ a year is enough for me and I've always lived frugal (not married).

Why not Google Zurich?

Europe isn’t one place. It’s roughly the size of the US, and varies more so than the US does.

Uber in Amsterdam would relocate you and sponsor a visa, it doesn't matter what citizenship you have, the visa is pretty much guaranteed. As a Senior engineer, you get a base salary of around 100k EUR, plus equity etc., and a nice tax bonus as well. Look at Numbeo for CoL, it's pretty accurate in my experience. We have money/payment teams here, so your experience could fit pretty well too.

Highly doubtful of this offer. Much much higher than what’s common in Western Europe

hmm, should I believe my paycheck or a random named ktfx on an anon app? tough choice.

Sweet brother. Half as much as you would get in the US but with 50% tax and same cost of living.

Yet I don’t see Europeans queuing up at the immigration counters here.I wonder why

Higher cost of living too. And significantly so.

Can’t speak for Germany but Spain and Portugal are awesome places to live (and I mean live, not just work). Cost of living is dirt cheap and the culture is radically more inspiring + authentic than Bay/NYC/SEA/ATX, and it’s a world(s) that doesn’t revolve around tech.

This is why I'm considering Spain and Portugal
