Hi.. Need guidance from somebody who has moved to / planning to move to India from USA. I have a pretty hard deadline to return to India before end of this year (because one of my parents is getting a surgery done) Specifically, what is a better strategy to search for a job in India ? I am based in SF at a public company and ready to move to India as soon as I get an opportunity there. How are the interviews in India vs USA ? For e.g I'm moving to Hyderabad and companies in Hyderabad are Google, Microsoft, Uber, Facebook, Salesforce etc.. Is the interview tougher in India or does it make sense to interview here in SF and then ask for a role in India ? TC : 250k, YoE : 6
Interviews are tough in India. LinkedIn and Indeed are good sites to explore the jobs and apply. Start from now if deadline is year-end.
Is ur current company having a presence in Hyderabad? If yes, ask for an internal transfer. That's the easiest. Otherwise you can interview with large companies in US for roles in India. If you know anyone (a hiring manager for eg) who is going to take you in without much fuss, that is the best. Even otherwise, look for referrals. Interviews in India are pretty much similar to what it is in US. The only thing is that each job has 100s of local applicants due to sheer population size. So it is better to have ur interview done before landing here. PS: I moved last month back to Bangalore without internal transfer. I was able to land 3 offers within a month. All of them were because of strong referrals
My current company is not located in India.. I know quiet a few people in working in FAANG's here in SF. Would their referral be considered a strong referral ? I don't know any Hiring Managers personally though. Do you mind if I DM you about a few specific questions ?
In my case all my referrals kinda guaranteed a job as long as I didn't screw up the interviews totally. It may not be the case for you. DM me if you have any questions.
Looking for Hyderabad specifically for now.
Move to a company in US with presence in India and ask for a transfer to india after couple of months. Interviewing in US is easier as interviewers are more rational than in India and most non FANG companies in india don't entertain remote candidates. In any case, there is no harm trying few companies in India directly.
hi OP, how was journey about moving back to India ? I am also moving back to India and interviewing positions in India right now. any guidance would be much appreciated! TIA

Do you really think Amazon is that bad
Better interview here and then ask for a role back home. If timelines aren't a huge concern for now, i would suggest you do this. Reason is that a huge move like this is easier on the mind if you have a gig lined up.
Question is, do companies entertain this request to interview here in SF for a role in India ? Or do I have to reveal this only after clearing the interviews ?
Yes FAANG companies most likely do. I know Amazon does
